Rearing Teenagers

Teenagers, especially in recent years, feel they inhabit a world of their own, in which they can make their own rules. Parents who break through can make their teen sons and daughters realize their discourtesy to other people, who also have rights, by their noisiness in public, or any other places meant for general sharing. Every teenager needs to be reminded to show respect and courtesy towards adults and to be protective and kindly toward the younger and weaker.

Nagging

Teenagers rightly complain that parents nag. Nagging is irritating and virtually useless particularly between parents and teenagers. Rather than nag, it is better to get their full attention first, tell him/her once, of what you want him/her to do, and then perhaps leave written reminders. It is more effective to tell a teenager that you know he has done something of which you disapprove than to ask him if he has done so. It is good to teach children to freely confess their wrongdoing.

Will Power

If you take out a $100 dollar bill and a shiny dime, you will see that a child leans more towards the dime than the $100 bill, which is worth more. That means greed was not encoded in your genes like (in this instance) the Catholic Church says that you were born in sin. You are attracted to the glitter; reaching for glitter introduces naiveness, which eliminates the presence of the devil. There is a certain amount of innocence in the glitter. There is a certain amount of inquiry in the mind. Therefore, it is encoded in your genes to go off at a certain time to be infatuated by the glitter. It is encoded in your genes to have a vivid imagination. Then it is encoded in your genes to have a vague imagination.

Vivid then Vague

Why do I say vivid first and vague second? Because a child does know the artificial baby milks—soyolac, infamil, or prosobee, from each other, and then the child knows the difference of those milks from his/her mother's milk. The child recognizes tastes. It is able to make that decision. A child will reject synthetics. First, the child is vivid. A child knows his/her parents. That is why when people other than the parents pick them up, the child begins to cry and rejects that person. A child has to be taught how to become vague. Once the principle of vividness and vagueness manifests in the genes will is born, will power.
