Sacred Scarab Beetle

Scarab graphicScarab – A representation of the scarab beetle, as a ceramic or stone sculpture, used in ancient Egypt as a talisman and a symbol of the soul.

The ancient Moors of Al Kham (Egypt) drew from the sacred scarab beetle, numerous symbolisms; one is of particular interest. The Egyptians must have been impressed with the drama of the scarab beetle rolling before them—on the ground, a ball of dung (The manurial excrement of animals and anything foul or abhorrent. ‘Dung beetles’ - any of various beetles, of the family Scarabaeidae, that form balls of dung many times their size, on which they feed and in which they lay eggs.).

The Moors of Al Kham believed that scarabs rolled their enormous spheres from the crack of daylight till the appearance of the sunset, and they saw in this, what they felt was a symbolism of the sun. The awakening sun in the morning was Khepre (one of the gods names). The ball of the sun, which was the immediate cause of his life in the world, was supposedly rolled across the sky by the Khefri (another of the gods names) beetle that, of course, was identified with the Creator.
