Prostitutes & Divas

QUES: What are the names of the deities of the sex force?

Answer: The names nymph, dryad and homo-drya are names of lesser deities of sex that were usually depicted as beautiful women. The name nymph comes from the Greek word nymphe and the Latin word nympha which means 'bride, maiden.' This is where the word nympho-mania comes from. It was compounded of the words nymph and mania which means 'madness, frenzy.' Nymphomania is defined as, excessive sexual desire by a female. This is no surprise since women have the power to entice and seduce the male of the species. Another name for a nymph is the Ashuric/Syraic (Arabic) word laylat or imra-atu al laylat, which means “women of the night,” and is still used today for prostitutes – “ladies of the night.”

The word deva also spelled diva is associated with nymphs because it means lurer – someone who entices.
