Jesus’ rivalrous disciples
You must realize that the disciples of Jesus were average people just like you. They ate, drank, slept, and sometimes even doubted Jesus. They were glory seekers, attention getters, etc.
Can you believe that the very disciples who claimed that they loved Jesus so much and would be willing to follow unto death were bickering about who would be considered the best disciple?
Jesus is telling them that he will be betrayed and all they could think about is their glory. (Luke 22:22-24.) It is this mentality which dominates the books of the disciples. It’s as if they were in competition for the “greatest story ever told.” So, of course they would add things to make their story the best. They didn’t even consider it important to record with historical accuracy. This is why their gospels contradict each other. The gospels of the apostles show many contradictions that your preachers, imams, ministers and reverends try to evade.
