An Olmec & Egyptian pet

Another similarity between the Olmecs and the Egyptians is the use of the same kind of hunting dog called the Basenji, which is odorless and barkless. This Basenji dog was found by columbus when he arrived here in the Caribbeans, which he reported in his journals as seeing a barkless dog. There was a Basenji toy found in Vera Cruz, in Mesoamerica. The only surviving specie of this Basenji dog is found amongst the Pygmies of Ituri Forest, which they use to track down and chase game.
