Again, we Nuwaubians are in the position of defending our leader and brother Dr. Malachi Z. York from character assassination in the mass media. The Source Magazine has printed an article entitled “Cult Classic,” that relies on questionable allegations brought about by unverified former members who accuse Dr. York of child molestation and abuse of power. The article goes on to describe the members of earlier times as “hawking” oils and incense, also wearers of long white robes. The grossly misinformed and apparently biased Ms. Jamiylah Chisolm penned the article. She then attempts to explain the origins of the Nuwaubian Nation as having been born shortly after the Black Panther Movement died and has pieces of rhetoric from The Nation of Islam, as well as Orthodox Islam, and Black Nationalist Movements.
As those of us who are currently supporting Dr. York know, The Nuwaubian Nation formed in 1967 in a small apartment in Brooklyn with only a few followers, and has grown to become one of the most supported and recognized multicultural organizations worldwide. Ms. Chisolm, apparently you have not done enough homework in the literature or background of our organization to allude to some type of relationship between these groups and the Nuwaubian Nation.
Dr. York has authored thousands of books and pamphlets dealing with subjects ranging from religion to how the mind works. He has answered the questions that many people were afraid to ask such as – does religion breed ignorance, is god a wimp, is the Koran authentic, and the list goes on and on. He has educated and given direction to thousands of youth that you refer to as “disaffected.” However, his message does not only appeal to young people in search of truth, but his powerful message has transcended age and socioeconomic background, boasting members who are accomplished physicians, actors, scientists, and musicians. He has provided housing and employment to those who live on his land, and is responsible for the economic boost in Eatonton Georgia during the “Family Day” celebration which is attended by thousands of spenders the world over. He and his fellow members are active in the community and have given thousands of dollars to charities through his Shriners organization. In addition, he is a father to his children, and any child needing a father figure, a loving son to his mother, and a teacher to us all. This is not the character of a man who would abuse or misuse, especially an innocent child.
Shame on you Ms. Chisolm; in your desire for respect as a journalist, you are a pawn in one of the oldest games in the book, “cut off the head and the body will fall.” Nevertheless, knowledge of self is like a tree that yields fruit that bears seeds and the cycle repeats itself, in the absence of our leader the mission continues. Source magazine you need to check your writers and your sources.
